Vocanic craters!

On Tuesday this week I travelled 930km south of Santiago (12 hours on a bus) to visit Osorno and the surrounding area. The cousin of the family I had stayed with in Santiago, had offered to show me the volcanic craters which lie close to the Andes mountain range.

We ventured into this first crater, which was much larger than I had ever envisaged, and made our way across ... I´d set my sights on reaching the snow!

It was certainly much harder to venture across the crater than I thought it would be ... as in my haste to ´pack light´, I´d only brought my sandals to the south with me!

The views from the top, were certainly worth all the effort. See for yourselves ...

    Liam – When you come back to iCAN, put a ribbon around your new beard to show it off! Are the volcanoes active in South America? And if there are, please go and see one erupt! Take lots of pictures! Do you think this is the thrill of your life?
    Richiboth – Are you safe in South America? How many friends do you have there with you?
    Veronica – How do you say teacher in Spanish? Can you teach us a bit of Spanish? Do you miss Ms Lori?
    Sun Woo – How many people are there in South America?

    Thanks for your facial hair suggestions 3J at iCAN! Not sure if it will grow long enough to tie a ribbon round it though, Liam! I am hoping to visit an active volcano within the next week or two, so will keep you posted!
    Richiboth, I am safe here in Chile, even though there have been up to 10 aftershocks in a single day, following the earthquake on 27th February.
    ´Profesor´ is the Spanish word for ´teacher´ Veronica ... I have also been learning to count to 100 and have learnt the names of some foods - which was essential when I was helping to prepare all the emergency food parcels, as I had to check the lists which were written in Spanish and add items to each of the boxes before they were sealed and sent south.
    Sun Woo, there are around 15 million people living here in Chile, which is a few more than live in Cambodia. Maybe you can use the internet to find out how many people live in the whole of South America and let me know!
    I´m going to add some more clips this weekend so you should be able to check them out on Monday!
